about us

jim and ginny harrison

The Harrisons are the owners of Harrison Swim School. While Jim handles the behind-the-scenes responsibilities, Ginny brings over 40 years of swimming instruction to the pool.

Originally from Miami, Florida, Ginny has taught in the Central Florida area for over 25 years. She is a certified American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor qualified to teach babies as young as 6 months and all ages including senior adults. Ginny specializes in teaching the fearful child or adult. She has successfully coached competitive swim teams, run children's summer camps and children's church programs.

Ginny serves as a member of the Water Safety Advisory Committee, created by the Lake County Board of County Commissioners. This committee advises the Board of County Commissioners on issues related to water safety and drowning prevention

Ginny encourages parent participation in every lesson. She uses a "gentle" but "firm" approach. Parent and teacher work together as a team to help instill self-confidence in every child while teaching solid swimming and water safety skills. Ginny and Jim are actively involved in their community working hard to bring water safety education to the forefront through their ministry, Straight Forward Ministries, Inc.,/Swimming for Life Water Safety Education. Together they have been instrumental in creating Water Safety Day in six Lake County cities and obtaining a proclamation for Lake County declaring the month of May as Water Safety month. Their efforts to see that every child has the opportunity to learn about water safety is carried on through their ministry, Straight Forward Ministries, Inc./Swimming for Life.

What’s our mission?

  • To inspire, teach and provide community programs that reflect God’s love and purpose.
  • To treat every individual whether big or small, with respect, love and care.
  • It is our goal to work as a team with parent and child to give tools to help everyone become safer in the water.
